CHERRY BLOSSOM

Every spring, life in Japan briefly comes to a standstill as office clerks, schoolchildren, young families and retirees drop what they're doing, grab a blanket and head to the park for hanami. This is a traditional cherry blossom festival, symbolizing the beginning of spring and new life. The blossoms bloom from March to early May - different in each region. In Tokyo, the cherry tree usually blooms in mid-April.
